Wayne Ruff · Lee's Summit, MO

An online art gallery you can actually walk through

Painter Wayne Ruff hangs his work in a deliberate order. We built him walkable 3D gallery rooms, plus an artist-friendly admin that lets him load forty paintings in an evening.

Automatic image sizes

Every upload becomes every size the site needs, in modern formats with blur placeholders.

The challenge

Wayne Ruff is a Lee’s Summit artist who paints in acrylic. His work is organized into five themed galleries: Biblical, FISH, Fun Favorites, Still Life and Retrospective. Each room is hung in a specific order and meant to be walked one piece at a time, with Wayne’s commentary on every painting.

A typical online art gallery flattens all of that into a grid of thumbnails. The order disappears, the scale disappears, and the stories behind the paintings get buried. Wayne also needed to run the site himself. An artist shouldn’t have to email a developer every time he finishes a canvas.

So we set two goals. First, give visitors the feeling of standing in the room, seeing each painting at its real size, in the order Wayne hung it. Second, make the admin so simple that adding a new body of work takes an evening, not a week of back-and-forth.

What we built

Galleries you can walk

Every gallery on wayneruffstudio.com opens as a hall you can walk through. Paintings hang at true size on alternating walls, in exactly the order Wayne chose. Colors match the photos exactly.

  • On a desktop, you walk with the keyboard.
  • On a phone, you tap the floor to walk and tap a painting to step up to it. A panel shows the label and Wayne’s full story behind the piece.

Fast for everyone, on every device

The 3D only loads when someone opens a room, so the rest of the site stays fast. And if a device can’t run 3D, visitors get the classic walk instead: one painting at a time, in the same order, with the same commentary. It works on any device, even with JavaScript turned off. Nobody gets a broken page.

An admin built for an artist

This is the part that saves Wayne the most time. He runs the whole gallery himself:

  • Create galleries and pick a look for each room: white-cube, warm-hall or dark-salon.
  • Batch upload a set of photos and get one draft per painting, titled from the filename. That’s how you load forty paintings in an evening.
  • Reorder pieces, switch between draft and published, mark each one available, sold or not for sale, and add an optional price.
  • Edit the announcement bar and contact and social details, with no developer involved.

Every upload is automatically turned into every image size the site needs, in modern formats with blur placeholders. Wayne never has to resize a photo, and pages stay sharp and quick to load on any screen.

Because each room has its own look, the same admin can stage a bright, quiet white-cube for one series and a moody dark-salon for another.

Enquiries that go straight to the artist

Each painting has its own enquiry form, with spam protection. Enquiries are saved and emailed to Wayne, and when he hits reply, it goes straight to the collector. No forwarding, no copy and paste.

Availability is right on every painting, too. A collector can see at a glance whether a piece is available, sold or not for sale, and see a price when Wayne chooses to show one.

Every painting can be found in search

Every painting has its own page and address, marked up so search engines understand it as an original artwork by Wayne Ruff. The sitemap and a guide file for AI search tools build themselves from the live catalog, so they stay current as Wayne adds work. There are no tracking analytics. Visitors can browse privately.

The result

Ruff Studios has been live since October 2026, with 52 original paintings across five galleries. Visitors walk the rooms the way Wayne intended, one piece at a time, with his story beside each one. And Wayne runs it all himself, from the first upload to the reply to a collector.

  • New paintings go from photo to published draft in minutes, in batches.
  • Galleries, order, prices and availability are his to change, any time.
  • Collector enquiries land in his inbox, ready to answer.

Next up: online sales.
